PODIUMSGESPRÄCH: LET’S DO FILMS DIFFERENTLY – WEIBLICHES EMPOWERMENT IN ÄSTHETIK UND PRODUKTION
(orig. )
Language:German90 min
In the documentary essay BRAINWASHED: SEX - CAMERA - POWER, Nina Menkes impressively shows how strongly the "male gauze" is anchored in cinematic language. This opens our eyes, make gazes visible and change how we see films. This is highly topical, frightening - and empowering: because with this insight, filmmakers can do films differently in the future. We would like to discuss with them how counter-designs can be created. What does (female) empowerment look like in current visual language and production relations? How can the dominant "male gauze" be lifted in storytelling, design and production? How can film be shaped and organised as a form of artistic expression so that this gaze regime is broken and a "female gauze" is established?
