Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania in order to sell a house in Wismar to the mysterious Count Dracula. As soon as he arrives, he begins to suspect that his client is far more than just an eccentric aristocrat... Werner Herzog’s controversial remake offers a hypnotic blend of beauty and horror with clear references to F. W. Murnau’s NOSFERATU. The impressive locations and eerie music create a haunting atmosphere. An unforgettable aspect of the film is Klaus Kinski’s portrayal of Dracula, for which he was awarded the “Filmband in Gold”. “Herzog’s optically visionary interpretation radiates with a supremely stylised staging”, writes Filmstarts.
