In the once thriving industrial town of Bytom, the houses are leaning as a result of ruthless coal mining. Robbed of their livelihoods after the mines were shut down, the miners carry their last belongings and their very personal stories to "Helicopter 2". But even in Poland's biggest pawnshop the glory days are long gone because hardly anything can be sold. Nevertheless, they always find a sympathetic ear, warm-hearted words or hot soup from Jola, Wiesek and their three employees. Thus their shop becomes a place to go for down-and-outs. Director Kowalski takes an affectionate but also ruthlessly honest look at this quirky world.

Director's Biography:After studying philology at the University of Silesia, Lukasz Kowalski attended the Wajda School in Warsaw. Since 2007, investigative, award-winning television journalist with his own production company. THE PAWNSHOP is his feature film debut.
