Poland in the 1990s: Reading it backwards, Subuk, known as Kuba (in Polish: Kubus), speaks his name. Apart from that, he hardly speaks, cries a lot and is different from other children right from the start. The young, single mother Maryska, who actually did not want to have a child but wanted to study, slowly finds access to her son, who is eventually diagnosed as autistic. She argues in a committed and unconventional way against outdated ideas ("refrigerator mother") and bureaucratic rules. And she finds like-minded people with whom she fights for a place in Polish society for children like Kuba.
The multiple award-winning and encouraging film was inspired by true events.
