This year, the BIFF is delighted to have BS|ENERGY as co-main sponsor of the opening film concert for the first time. In this interview, Matthias Henze, Member of the Board of BS|ENERGY, talks about the importance of the festival for the cultural scene in Braunschweig, the company's responsibility for the region and his personal love of cinema.
Mr. Henze, BS|ENERGY is now supporting the Braunschweig International Film Festival (again). Why did you decide to get involved with the film festival, what do you think makes it special?
The Braunschweig International Film Festival enriches the cultural offer in Braunschweig and has been offering great films of all genres to the Braunschweig audience for more than 3 decades now.
BS|ENERGY is heavily involved locally, in the city and the region. Why is your commitment to "our" region so important to you?
We are the supplier in Braunschweig. It is important to us that the people in Braunschweig and the region are doing well. An appropriate sports and cultural program contributes to their well-being.
What special importance would you attach to the BIFF for the local event and cultural scene?
The Braunschweig International Film Festival is the largest and oldest film festival in Lower Saxony. More than 200 films of all genres are shown, an absolute "must" for film and cinema fans.
What does culture mean to you? Which formats, topics or events do you personally find particularly exciting?
Thinking outside the box, gaining new perspectives, getting food for thought and focusing on beauty. Events like the opera on Burgplatz. I recently got a subscription for symphony concerts.
How would you describe your personal, cinematic or cinematic connection? Are there certain types of films, genres or series that appeal to you personally? If so, which ones (and why those)?
I tend to prefer the drama and comedy genres, but I am also open to other movie genres. For example, I think the American Frontier trilogy by Taylor Sheridan with the films Hell or High Water, Sicario and Wind River are very well done. I'm also interested in films that have to do with historical events, such as Thirteen Days (Cuban Missile Crisis) and Oppenheimer. I used the pandemic years to watch classics like Breakfast at Tiffany's. I've also been fascinated by film music since my early youth.
