In Cinemas & Online: Film enjoyment without borders

Preparations for this year's 36th Braunschweig International Film Festival are already in full swing, with a focus on Young European Cinema, documentaries, as well as film concerts and music documentaries. In addition to the obligatory festival week in November 2022, the organizing association Internationales Filmfest Braunschweig e. V. and the festival team are planning to offer film enthusiasts and festival fans in the region even more program highlights and exciting special events related to the world of film during the year. So the motto is: stay tuned! However, as with the previous 35th festival, these events and the upcoming festival are heavily dependent on the ongoing pandemic situation. That's why the 36th BIFF is also expected to take place in a hybrid format - meaning that the diverse film program will once again be available to experience both on-site in regional cinemas, as well as nationwide via the tried-and-true online platform of Festivalscope. That this hybrid format also has advantages is emphasized by board chairman Thorsten Rinke of the Filmfest-Verein: "The decision in favor of the hybrid concept is primarily intended to again give as many people as possible the opportunity to experience films, regardless of location and the prevailing, pandemic situation."

Looking ahead: hope for the regional cultural scene

Despite uncertainty about the development of the pandemic situation, the Filmfest association is working in collaboration with its festival team to ensure that the universally popular week-long major cinematic event can take place this year, however, at best without any major further restrictions - naturally taking into account the different hygiene concepts of the respective venues. Rinke adds to this: "As festival organizers, we wish to make our contribution to culture in this city and to film culture as such, and we hope that the encounters between filmmakers and the audience will be more possible again this year. We are already looking forward to the 36th BIFF and are already working on a diverse program." Because despite the ongoing and uncertain circumstances, the annual Braunschweig International Film Festival remains a regional cultural highlight that is well worth reserving.
