The plot of WEDNESDAY 04:45 is located in crisis-ridden Athens. Stelios has built up a jazz club which is not running that well. After 17 years, his creditor want him to pay back his debts and harness him into his criminal organisation. Although the financial situation of Greece is not in the foreground, a latently oppressive atmosphere can be discerned in Alexis Alexiou`s second film which is not just due to the Protaganist`s own bad news (broken marriage, dug addiction, debts in the underworld). Dark, rainy Athens is superbly photographed and provides the thriller with an excellent stage for the development of its plot.
