Margarethe von Trotta’s impressive film about the mystic, writer, abbess and doctor, Hildegard von Bingen (1098 – 1179), one of the most famous medieval women who already became a legend in her own time. Barbara Sukowa was awarded the Bavarian 2009 film prize for her outstanding performance.

She became famous as an actress before she started her international career as female filmmaker. She is a member of the European Film Acadamy, the Acadamy of Arts and the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. She lives in Paris and Munich.
