Newlyweds Ise and Antoine travel to visit relatives at a secluded castle. There, they learn of the death of their hosts. What the couple do not realise is that the undead clan have cast a greedy eye on the beautiful Ise... The film’s distribution title SEXUAL-TERROR DER ENTFESSELTEN VAMPIRE (SEXUAL TERROR OF THE UNLEASHED VAMPIRE) promised exploitative eroticism to the audiences in the railway-station cinemas of the old West Germany. “However, anyone familiar with Jean Rollin’s cosmos will know that what awaits them is, instead, an intoxicating series of images and an extraordinary cinematic-sexual experience.” (Marcus Stiglegger.) “With regard to the enormous diversity of his erotic imagery, Rollin surpasses himself in his film THE SHIVER OF THE VAMPIRES.” (David Pirie in the standard work “The Vampire Cinema”.)

Director's Biography:Jean Rollin (1938-2010) never attended film school. Pioneer and great auteur of the erotic vampire film wave of the 1970s, Rollin freed the cinematic vampire from the shackles of conventional narrative structures and placed it in a surrealist-visual frame of reference.
