“It is very human to feel lonely. Sometimes it helps to simply laugh”, so the two directors. Martha does not laugh. Lonely, she lives on the edge of the Californian desert. As telemarketer she is a failure. She also hides objects for geocaching; At least this second job does not require her to talk. Sadie has multiple personalities but no home after the clinic’s closure. Martha lets her stay overnight and Sadie returns the favour with multiple friendships, visions of Jesus in a cookie tin, and motivation for the telemarketing job. Then Richard, also not greatly interested in the real world, blunders into their wonderfully absurd friendship, and suddenly their life takes some unexpected turns.
