Paulo Coelho can be counted as one of the most famous authors of the present. The Brasilian, born in 1947, has sold more than 210 million books world-wide. The two books THE ALCHEMIST and THE PILGRIMAGE form the basis of the biopic as well as a lot of details from his life. Right from the early years as a rebel against the military dictatorship - when his father made him undergo an electrotherapy shock therapy - via a short career as a successful but drug-addicted songwriter, to his spiritual transformation in a monastery in Santiago de Compostela. Coelho himself is embodied in the film by the brothers Ravel and Julio Andrade. The original title is taken from one of Coelho`s earlier songs.
