When Éva Fahidi was 18 years old, she and her entire family were deported to Auschwitz. At 20, she returned from there alone, as the only survivor. Inspired by her memoires “The Soul of Things”, Hungarian choreographer, dancer, and filmmaker Réka Szabó invites the 90-year old Fahidi to participate, together with the Budapest based dancer Emese Cuhorka (as young Éva), in a dance piece about her life. Accompanied by interviews with its extraordinary protagonist, the film documents the remarkable and moving project of three highly dedicated women. With the physical vocabulary of dance, they reach places where words fail to work, places where horror and unflinching joie de vivre coexist.
Director's Biography:Réka Szabó is a choreographer and filmmaker based in Budapest. In 2002, she founded the much-acclaimed dance company The Symptoms. THE EUPHORIA OF BEING has already received several awards at renowned film festivals such as Locarno and Sarajevo.
