Elena and Iván give up their life in Barcelona and decide to move to rural Catalonia. There, the two take over an inherited cork plantation, which they want to run fairly and sustainably. Starting out full of enthusiasm and ideals, they soon come up against harsh reality, as they now not only have responsibility for the people they employ but also see their livelihood threatened by the growing danger of forest fires. As a result, their conflicting ideas lead them into deeper and deeper conflict.

Told with magnificent landscape shots, this is an exciting film debut about a young couple whose relationship is subjected to an unexpected test.

Director's Biography:Mikel Gurrea was born in San Sebastián in 1985 and studied in Barcelona at Pompeu Fabra University and at the London Film School. His short films have been shown at famous film festivals. SURO is his feature film debut and has already won several awards.
