The old carpenter Mario and the young peasant woman Marta live in a village situated at the edge of a chestnut grove between Italy and Yugoslavia. A few years after the end of World War II, the Iron Curtain slowly closes, and many villagers leave their former lives behind. People who stay, are people like Mario. He wants to pass on his hard-earned wisdom about the daily survival to Marta. With poetic imagery, STORIES FROM THE CHESTNUT WOODS carry the memory of past ways of life and fateful decisions. The film draws a captivating and precise portrait of a village community and its surrounding landscape.

Director's Biography:Gregor Bozic, born 1984 in Slovenia, studied film at the National Slovenian Film Academy, the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, and the DFFB in Berlin;  the search for old fruit varieties in the borderland of Italy and Slovenia sparked the idea for his first feature-length film.
