The selection of works in this programme reflects the practice of a range of emerging artists who have recently graduated from or are currently studying in the class of Candice Breitz at the HBK Braunschweig. The works cover social, cultural, historical and political subjects. Reflections on the culture of technology, consumption and media fiction in which we live and how it affects our personal and everyday experiences are as well a matter to the young artists as poetically posed questions of selfhood, whether by seeking it in nature or in regard to a world flooded of images. The programme also includes works that attempt to understand and reconcile cultural differences, that explore foreignness and the search of belonging, works that question gender stereotypes, desires and the machinery of seduction and a fact-based film that traces the fate of a Mexican woman in the 19th century.
