Carmen Maura is Pepi, an independent woman. Her neighbour, a policeman, uses her marihuana crop as an excuse to rape her. Pepi, together with her friend Bom, a singer in the punk-rock band Bomiton, hatches a plan of revenge: they want to entice Laura, the policeman`s masochistic wife, away from him. Almodòvar`s first film is an anarchic comedy, rough and boisterous. The film ran for years in the night programme in the Alphaville Theatre in Madrid. It first came out in Germany as a DVD debut in 2010. Our EUROPA prize-winner, who was already well known then, encouraged the Super- 8 underground filmmaker to make his debut on 16 mm and helped him with funding.
