OXYGEN STARVATION from 1992 is one of the first non-state-sponsored and financed films after Ukraine's independence. The plot is based on director Andriy Donchyk's own experiences: a touching and shocking social study of a young soldier and the abuse of young recruits in the Soviet / Russian army, which is still common today. The film took almost three years to make, there were problems with the censors at the time, and financial hurdles. The film was shown at numerous international festivals with great success, but it was unable to break through in Ukraine. Today, it is a contemporary witness and at the same time highly topical.

Director's Biography:Andriy Donchyk is a graduate of Karpenko-Kary University, Donchyk. He was involved in various film projects until his first and only feature film. He passed away in 2017.
