After his incarceration, a young street criminal is confronted with the rules and rituals of a grand old prison controlled by its inmates. As he learns what fate awaits him, we see him spend a night recounting the mystical life of a legendary outlaw named Zama King – visually powerful and thrilling. The fellow prisoners complement his performance with dance and song in the tradition of the West African professional storytellers, the griots. In addition, this intricate story is illustrated in flashbacks, from today's big city slums in Abidjan to the pre-colonial times of the native queen.

Director's Biography:Grew up in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. From 2002 focused on the recent history of the country with CHRONICLES OF WAR IN THE IVORY COAST, a mixture of documentary and diary. Reached a wider audience in 2014 with the feature film RUN in Cannes.
