This year, the series NEW GERMAN FILMS presents 10 German movies from Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Denmark. Like in the last years, they provide stories about people in difficult life situations, people who live in societies that lose structure and struggle. How do known systems like FAMILY, LOVE RELATIONSHIPS and FRIENDSHIP sustain the changes of modern times? And, first of all, how do concepts like HOME transform in a time of globalization that terminates even geographic borders? The filmmakers let their protagonists experience and solve these vital issues in very different ways: migration, change, suffering, joy and questions will be addressed in shifting intensities, focused and offered to study by the audience. The films ask these more and more pressing questions: Who are we, how do we live with each another and how do we want to life with each another? Behind this variety of issues, there also lies the question: What is the NEW GERMAN CINEMA? The films answer this question in their own, unique ways but there is no conclusive answer at the moment.
