A young Czech woman falls in love with an Afghan man during her studies and is integrated into his family. But she has no idea what kind of life awaits her in post-Taliban Afghanistan in 2011. In her new family there is a liberal grandfather, the highly intelligent adopted son Maad and her sister-in-law who suffers under her violent husband. The film shows how a family structure reorders itself with a lot of humour and sensitivity. The successful combination of outstanding animation and an exciting story will not only delight animation fans. MY SUNNY MAAD has already won numerous jury prizes, including in Annecy, and is nominated for the TILDA award.

Director's Biography:Animated filmmaker Michaela Pavlátová, born in 1961, studied architecture and design in Prague before completing her first short animated film in 1987. This was followed by further short films, some of which won awards, and her first feature-length film in 2003.
