Carlotta cannot recognize familiar faces, not even her own. For her, human faces do not evoke trust, instead she perceives them as frightening and confusing. Accompanied by the outstanding music of Braunschweig composer Antimo Sorgente, Valentin Riedl’s documentary film LOST IN FACE follows Carlotta on her rocky, meandering path. Again and again, Carlotta tries to conform and swim with the tide, until one day, she decides to leave the human world for good. Her restless quest finally leads her to art. Through art she finds a door to her own face and slowly she feels her way back to her fellow human beings.

Director's Biography:As neuroscientist, Valentin Riedl studies the functions of the human brain. On the recommendation of Wim Wenders, Valentin received a grant from the Sparkasse Cultural Foundation of Rhineland as well as a stipend from the Wim Wenders Foundation for his efforts to connect abstract science to the art of film. After several short films and the multiple award-winning animated film CARLOTTA’S FACE, Valentin presents his first feature-length film LOST IN FACE.
