Young people like going to the cinema and talking about films. The German-French youth prize KINEMA takes up this general interest which the 28th Braunschweig International Film Festival is awarding for the eighth time. Together with the Lower Saxony school cinema project Kinema and the Franco-German Youth Organisation, the filmfest has developed a concept that allows young people from both countries to take an active part in an international festival. This award was even acclaimed by the French Embassy in Berlin last year within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the Élysée Agreement. The six person jury made up of young French and German people (three were selected from Lower Saxony and three from Haute-Normandie), aged between 16 and 21, will select an prize winner from amongst 6 debut or second films. The award-winner will be announced on 15th November and he or she will receive a copy of the film with subtitles for cinema release in their own country. The French film curator Amélie Desserre will help the jury during their bilingual discussions. Three of the films come from Germany and the other three from France, Belgium and Switzerland.
