The name Piet Oudolf, Dutch garden designer and landscape architect, famous for projects such as the New York High Line - designed in collaboration with Diller Scofidio + Renfro - stands for a new garden art. „Plants are like characters, I stage them, and I compose with them”, this is how Oudolf describes his artistic approach. Thomas Piper’s evocative film portrait uncovers Oudolf’s creative processes and views, starting from the first sketches and conceptual designs, through his philosophical and aesthetical credos, up to the ecological implications of his work. Thus, the filmmaker manages to convey the emotional spectrum of an art, which centers its attention on the beauty of transience.
