The story takes place in the 17th century at Grieshuus castle in Holstein. The old lord has designated his son Hinrich as his heir, while his younger son Detlef is studying law in the city. When one day Bärbe, the daughter of bondsman Owe Heiken, is ambushed by soldiers, Hinrich saves her life. He falls in love with her and plans on marrying her even against his father’s will. However, the father dies over the course of this dispute. Now a battle over the inheritance breaks out between the two dissimilar brothers.
The Braunschweig International Film Festival presents a new score by Stephan v. Bothmer.  A Braunschweig State Theater string quintet will be playing alongside Stephan v. Bothmer himself (piano).
