”I wanted to take a journey to the unknown”, says Ciro Guerra about his motivation for THE EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT, a prize-winning film at the Director`s Fortnight in Cannes. The visually stunning and gripping film - filmed completely on location - takes us along on a psychedelic trip to the Colombian Amazon to see the world through the eyes of indigenous cultures. As the guardian of sacred knowledge, the shaman Karamakate accompanies two explorers, Theo and Evan, on the search for a rare medicinal plant, twice, at an interval thirty years apart. Passing gloomy testimonies to colonial madness, the journey takes us ever deeper into a spiritual world in which dream and reality become one.
