In her documentary film, Suvi West portrays the Finnish Sámi’s struggle with the government to have their culture, language and rights recognised, and thereby enables people from different generations to have their say. At the centre of the film is the dispute with the Finnish Committee for Truth and Reconciliation, which leads all the way to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. The committee, one of over 40 of its kind worldwide, was founded in 2021. The most prominent example was probably its predecessor in South Africa for the clarification of the crimes of the apartheid regime. The story told here is exemplary for the situation of many indigenous peoples.

Director's Biography:Suvi West began her career at YLE Sámi Radio in Inari, the cultural and political centre of the Finnish Sámi. She was a producer for Norwegian state television. Homesickness led her back to the north after years in Helsinki.
