In June 2000, during the Second Congo War (1998-2003), Kisangani became a battlefield for Rwandan and Ugandan forces. 20 years later, survivors of the bloody conflict use the art of musical theatre to fight for the acknowledgement of their injuries and losses. Now, a group of these war invalids embarks on a journey to the capital to seek official recognition of their stories. Congolese documentary filmmaker Dieudo Hamadi travels with them on the Congo river to Kinshasa. Hamadi’s film is a tour de force: He captures intense glimpses into contemporary Congolese life, portraits the perseverance of the victims, and examines the country’s present situation and its handling of the collective traumata.

Director's Biography:Dieudo Hamadi was born in Kisangani, Congo. He studied medicine before moving into filmmaking. Since 2010, he has directed several feature-length documentaries about the Congo which were shown internationally at festivals such as Cannes and Toronto.
