When famine, poverty and despotism oppressed people in the middle of the 19th century, hundreds of thousands emigrated from Europe to distant South America. Hope and the bitter realisation that ”you can find something better than death everywhere” drive them to look for a new home. In 2014 Edgar Reitz won the German Film Prize for HOME FROM HOME, the fourth part of his Heimat cycle (1984-) Michael Riessler, bass clarinettist and composer, wrote the score for all the films in the Heimat cycle, which won numerous film awards. With the accordionist Jean-Lous, Matinier Riessler performs in a concert inspired by the cycle and its pictures. Riessler`s film music derives from improvised music and has its roots in jazz and new music.
