12-year-old Bailey lives with her slightly older half-brother Hunter and her father Bug in a squat in the harbour town of Gravesend in North Kent, not far from London. Bug is unemployed, has a new girlfriend and his latest business idea is selling a hallucinogenic slime that he extracts from an imported toad. Bailey’s mother Peyton and her three younger sisters live on the other side of town. Nobody has time for Bailey, but then she meets the friendly vagabond Bird (Franz Rogowski) on the moor and a magical bond begins.
