Flashy, colourful, loud and brave! AVANT-DRAG! portrays the drag scene in Athens and examines queer life (and survival) in everyday life in Greece today. It goes beyond the usual depiction of drag, is more radical, subversive and explicitly political. Ten drag artists question and undermine social norms and fight for recognition and social justice. In their actions, they are repeatedly confronted with queer hostility, police violence, nationalism and hate crimes. With openness and sensitivity, the film explores the multi-layered queer identity and celebrates the great courage of the artists. Above all: the community speaks for itself!

Director's Biography:Fil Ieropoulos, born 1978 in Athens and grew up in Northern Greece. Filmmaker and artist. Studied film and media art in the UK and completed his PhD on poetics and film in 2009.
