Alvar Aalto must be one of the most famous architects and furniture designers of the 20th century. In this new documentary, director Virpi Suutari intentionally omits his first name from the title, in order to highlight the contribution made to his career by his brilliant wife Aino. Theirs was a partnership of equals. He was ebullient and outgoing, she shyer and more retiring, but no less exacting both in her professionalism and in her business skills. Her untimely death from cancer in 1948 was a terrible blow for Alvar. With carefully chosen extracts from their letters, the film draws the portrait of a fascinating artistic marriage that takes the viewer right into the heart of Finnish modernism.

Director's Biography:Virpi Suutari is an award-winning Finnish filmmaker, internationally known for her cinematic style and narrative force. Her documentary THE IDLE ONES was nominated Best European Documentary (EFA) in 2001.
