Milton leads a dreary life. Every day he complains to the local authority about the lack of zebra crossings, goes shopping and tries to thereby avoid the other old people in town. His children treat him like a necessary evil or do not even talk to him anymore. When an alien lands in his garden, it is a welcome change for Milton. Without further ado, he names the alien Jules and shows him the ways of the world. Unfortunately, however, the neighbours Sandy and Joyce get wind of it and become involved. Milton is not enthusiastic at first, but then accepts their help in order to help Jules find his way home before the government captures him.

Director's Biography:Marc Turtletaub is actually better known as a producer (e.g. of LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE). This is why JULES is only his third feature film, although he can already look back on a long career at the age of 77.
