To mark this year's World Children's Day on June 1, the Braunschweig International Film Festival and the Wolfsburg Planetarium invite you to a special double screening: E.T., probably the most famous alien in film history, is coming to the big screen of the planetarium and promises a completely new, planetary film experience. Beforehand, children can also look forward to a free supporting program in the planetarium.
"For anyone who experienced the moving film E.T. - THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL as a child, the emotional moments evoked by the story of the little alien and his companion Elliot are unforgettable," outlines Karina Gauerhof, Co-Festival Director of the Braunschweig International Film Festival (BIFF). "We are therefore delighted to be able to bring this film closer to children and to create a completely new film experience in the unique ambience of the planetarium's domed hall." In cooperation with the Wolfsburg Planetarium, the BIFF is bringing E.T. to Wolfsburg on June 1 for World Children's Day and has a lot planned for the occasion.
Program for children with a free, interactive program
From 14:30, children can look forward to a free, interactive program in the planetarium, which offers them the opportunity to colour in pictures, win exciting prizes on the wheel of fortune and immerse themselves in the galactic world of the planetarium. At 16:00, the Planetary Film Day will begin with the first screening of E.T. - THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL, suitable for children aged 6 and over, in a German dubbed version. "For the first time, we are delighted to be showing a film for the whole family in our joint series of classic films with the BIFF," outlines Mareike Böttcher from Planetarium Wolfsburg. "While aliens have usually been presented as rather unpleasant contemporaries, Steven Spielberg has shown an amiable, approachable alien for the first time with E.T.. In the special atmosphere of our beautiful Wolfsburg Planetarium, children can see for themselves that E.T. has lost none of its lovability almost 42 years after its creation."
Re-experience Spielberg's science fiction classic
In 1982, Steven Spielberg created one of the most successful feature films of all time with E.T. - THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL, which won four Oscars and is now one of the most important science fiction classics. The heart-warming story of Elliot, who, together with his siblings Michael and Gertie, does everything in his power to hide his alien friend E.T. from the adults so that he can "phone home", has moved an entire generation and had a lasting impact on the science fiction genre. At the Wolfsburg Planetarium, guests now have the opportunity to experience this timeless classic in a completely new way. The second screening of the Planetary Film Day begins at 19:00, this time in the original version with German subtitles. "This screening is an absolute must, and not just for fans of science fiction classics. The unique atmosphere in the planetarium's domed hall promises a completely new film experience!" emphasizes Karina Gauerhof.
Tickets for both screenings are available here. No registration is required for the free children's program.
